Com.It.Es. stands for "Comitati degli Italiani all'Estero" and is a body representing Italians residing abroad.
Com.It.Es. were established in 1985 under Law no. 205/1985
They were then renewed under Law no. 286 of 23 October 2003
Com.It.Es. are regulated by the Presidential Decree no. 395-2003 implementing the Com.It.Es.
The members of the different Com.It.Es. are elected by Italians residing in a Consular Constituency with at least three thousand Italian nationals.
Com.It.Es. are composed of:
Com.It.Es. are "bodies representing Italians living abroad before diplomatic-consular representatives" (art. 1 parag. 2 Law no. 286/2003). Therefore, they play an essential role both towards the community they represent and towards the Consul by collaborating and cooperating through a "regular information flow" in order to protect the rights and the interests of the Italian citizens living abroad.
As for their powers, the Com.It.Es., contribute in identifying and promoting the needs of social, cultural and civil development of their reference communities; with particular attention placed on such issues as equal opportunities, social and educational support, vocational training and issues regarding culture, sports and leisure.
