The Observatory

TheObservatory of Vocational Training and Employment for Italians Abroad is a platform of on-line services managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the General Directorate for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies funded by the European Social Fund. The Observatory has the purpose to highlight the human resources represented by Italian professionals and citizens in the world by strengthening their link with their Regions and areas of origin. The Observatory operates through an open network of Regional Boards and Institutional Bodies of Italians Abroad, jointly with the Ministry of Labour and Assocamerestero (the Association of Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad).
The Observatory helps Italian bodies and institutions overseas to create partnerships and cooperation projects with the regional Administration Boards in Italy. In particular, it provides services in the following sectors: information, planning, study and research and remote learning. To this end, the following projects are also underway: the Columbus database, Reports on the Italian presence in the main emigration countries, a Documentation Centre, a monthly newsletter and a regular press review.

COUNTRY REPORTS

• The Observatory publishes a report on Italians in the main emigration countries, thus continuing the research strand started during the Observatory's initial experimental phase. These Country Reports represent a constantly updated information tool and the office supplements the data whenever it is available.

NEWSLETTER

• The Newsletter, sent to the subscribers of the mailing list of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and available from its website www.esteri.it and on the MAENET intranet, is created by the Observatory of Vocational Training and Employment of Italians Abroad, with information provided by the Observatory Network in Italy (in the Administration Boards of the Regions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Apulia, Sardinia and Sicily) and abroad (Consuls, CCIE, Associations and other organisations representing Italians residing abroad). Its main objective is to promote connections among the Network's members and inform on the opportunities of the education system and employment market at an international level for the Regions in Southern Italy thanks to the collaboration of Italians abroad.

• This section promotes the initiatives promoted by International, European and Italian institutions, Regional Boards and by organisations and bodies in Italy and overseas.

PRESS REVIEW

• The Observatory of Vocational Training and Employment of Italians Abroad manages the weekly publication of a dedicated press review, focused on the issues regarding Italians abroad and the Observatory Network published by the main press agencies.
